Luke 19 : 1-9, Mark 10 : 46-52, Matthew 26 : 69-75

Luke 19: 1-9 - Zacchaeus was a tax collector. The man did not receive any salary for his work but collected as much money as he could so that he would have a handsome rake-off after paying the government. They were not very popular people and although he was rich he wouldn't have had many friends to share it with. Added to this was his size, being very small , it would be safe to say that Zacchaeus would have probably had an "esteem" problem. There was nothing attractive about Zacchaeus, but his desire to meet Jesus. This rich man was willing to give it all up to be a follower of Jesus and immediately his life changed.

Mark 10: 46-52 - Being blind in these times meant that you were often considered dumb as well. There was no social security, no employment , no guide dogs and no braile. Your only hope for survival was to sit and beg. Bartimaeus would have been picked on and been the joke of many a prank. He had every reason to feel worthless and of little value. Yet Bartimaeus showed a strength that was full of determination when he continued to shout Jesus name after continually being told to shut up. His faith and determination made him well and he became one of Jesus followers. Jesus sees the good qualities in people even when we can't.

Matthew 26: 69-75 - Peter often spoke more quickly than he thought, his mouth got him into lots of trouble over the time he was with Jesus. This incident in the courtyard would have been his all time low. Jesus had told him only hours ago that he would deny him and he told Jesus that he would die before he would do that and here he is denying Jesus for fear of Death. Peter had many faults and yet Jesus chose him to be one of his closest friends. Every time he would mess things up Jesus would gently help him back on track again. if Jesus can do that for Peter, he can do it for each one of us
