Whose hero are you?

This resource provides you with a lesson plan, a drama script, songs, activities to teach this lesson effectively, with opportunities for the children to be active in the learning process. You will be provided with lesson plans and extra materials for either a "stand alone teaching experience" or if you are teaching this as part of a whole module. Choose the resources that best suit your situation.

Aim: To challenge the children about what is means to be a Hero for Christ in the world they live in.

Show More True friendship can often mean sacrifice and that's certainly what it meant for Peter, the disciple, in the last days and hours of Jesus' life. Peter especially loved Jesus so much that he wanted to be with him and protect him, even though it meant making mistakes. It was never Peter's intention to hurt Jesus when he cut off the soldier’s ear or denied him by the fire. In fact it took courage for him to even be there. But as a friend these were the times that he would have felt he let Jesus down, not understanding at the time that it had to happen this way. The disciples that hid when Jesus was arrested and put on trial, not because they wanted to do so, but because they were so scared. When your life is in danger, it is hard to be a good friend and yet it is the example that Jesus gave when he died on the cross. He paid with his life, showing the cost of being a friend to others. It is more than many of us will ever do, but it sure is a challenge to us of what we can do for others, even if it is a sacrifice, and we have someone right beside us who knows the meaning of sacrifice and that is Jesus.

You Will Need: FOR TEACHING TIME
4 leaders to act out each part+props, Video for Station 5, Counselling Material for children who make a decision for Christ, Prizes, A place to write up the blanks for the memory verse. (Whiteboard / Chalkboard / paper on a wall) and appropriate pen.
FOR SMALL GROUP CHALLENGE
