Getting equipped for the battle

This resource provides you with a lesson plan, a drama script, songs, activities to teach this lesson effectively, with opportunities for the children to be active in the learning process. You will be provided with lesson plans and extra materials for either a "stand alone teaching experience" or if you are teaching this as part of a whole module. Choose the resources that best suit your situation.

Aim: To teach the children that we need the right equipment to survive when fighting in God’s gang.

He sent them out ... Show More When Jesus sent the disciples out for mission, he gave them some essentials, but not the obvious things we might think. He gave them the power to heal, and to kick out evil spirits. He sent them out with this information, to go to the communities around them, tell them of the Kingdom of God and heal them. He told them not to take very much in the way of equipment or resources, to travel light; that they were the most important equipment, because they contained the good news of God. He spoke to them about their attitude and how they should expect to be treated, that they did not need the best of accommodation, but a modest bed. He spoke to them about the way they were to speak to people and that if and when they were rejected, to not make a scene, but to simply walk away. He gave them courage that if they relied on Him, He would guide them and tell them what to do in each situation. Ultimately he challenged them to be bold and not give in. He equipped them for the battle with words of comfort, hope for the future and a promise that they would never be alone in the battle. We sometimes think we need the latest resources for presentation, to preach like “Billy Graham” and to look successful and confident at all times, Jesus sent them out with a call to have a right heart, attitude and availability and the promise that He would use them.

You Will Need: FOR TEACHING TIME: Leader to do the Chant with the Kids each week - Dressed in Army Gear, A leader to challenge, 2 Water guns, plastic sheet, towels, Long Raincoat, Rain hat, gumboots, goggles, masking tape, cream on a plate, A dividing sheet, 4 pieces of clothing for a number of occupations (at least 4 different occupations), with pieces of the memory verse on them, mixed up in a box, Pictures for Discussion in Teaching Time
