Know the Battle

Aim: To teach the children that when you are in God’s gang, the battle is a spiritual one.

Show More David’s life has been a roller coaster of experiences and emotions. He has defeated the giant, been successful in battle, helped the King and won his favour, married the woman he loved and gained a best friend in Jonathan. The people have all come to love him and now the King has become very jealous and wants to kill him. David flees the palace leaving all that he loves - Also knowing that God had originally said that he would be King. Things seem to be all going wrong. This is when it is important to know the game plan and that there is a spiritual battle going on. David is to now spend a long time as a fugitive, running and hiding from King Saul. There were times when he is protected (1 Sam 23: 14), he did anything to stay alive and clung to the promise of one day being King. Even in the extreme endeavour of King Saul to kill David, he held no animosity towards him and was truly sad when King Saul died. David spared King Saul’s life a number of times, and had no desire to see him dead, even though he knew one day he would take Saul’s place as King. Throughout this time, David could have been angry, taken things into his own hands, complained, but he knew that the battle and timing of it all was a spiritual battle and left it to the Lord to sort out.
