To teach the children that to be in “God’s Gang” is the way to choose Life.
Luke 22
It is very sad to see Judas’ fate in the days of Jesus arrest, but it is important to remember that he always had a choice. It is so important that while this is happening another disciple, Peter, is going through a similar situation and chooses forgiveness and life rather than death. There are many theories as to why Judas betrayed Jesus. We have no motives in the scriptures, but we are told of how Judas handled it. It is important to teach the children that we will always make mistakes, get things wrong, even do something deliberately for the wrong motive, but we always have a choice of how we deal with it. John 12 brings out the point that just before he hands Jesus over, Judas wasn’t happy with Mary and the way she wasted the perfume. It seems that Judas was finding it hard to deal with Jesus’ choices and decisions. It is also noted that he was stealing the money, so Judas was already struggling with which gang he was to be a part of. Choosing to be in God’s gang will sometimes mean there are things we don’t understand. Even in that state, we need to choose to follow, to learn from our mistakes and move on. Peter did this, Judas didn’t. Peter Chose life.
