Show More Even after the flood the people still did not get it, very much like today, the people were filled with their own importance and human arrogance. The tower commenced construction with the distinct purpose of wanting to become "Gods" themselves. In ancient days gods were worshipped in high places, where there were no mountains they would build temples that were very high. Everyone banded together to build the tallest temple they could to show how important and clever they were and so that they might feel good about themselves. They felt powerful in large numbers and unbeatable in what they could do. Still today people marvel at tall buildings and those who have constructed them. We are devastated when they are destroyed; somehow they symbolize our own incredible abilities. This tower of Babel took away the focus from God and onto the people and their pride in what they could achieve. It is a wrong foundation to build your life on and is still a major problem in today’s western culture. God confused their languages so they could not work together and the building of the tower was halted. Any foundation other than God will fail and will lead eventually to confusion.
