Minor Prophets

A prophet is defined as "One who speaks for God, giving His message to others". The Bible is full of them and so is History. There are 12 minor prophets in the Old Testament. Each had a message for their time, which is still relevant to today. The main purpose of each persons message was to make people aware that they were neglecting God and often doing their thing and that it would eventually lead to their own destruction. They were often given pictures or symbols of this. Hosea with his wife, Joel and the Locusts attacking crops, Amos’s vision of fire, plump lines and ripe fruit, Jonah and the whale, Haggai rebuilding the temple and Zechariah’s dreams and visions. The Minor prophets show us that for a certain time and certain people. God raises up people to speak to them. They have a particular message, that challenges them to turn to God. He still does that today. Are we willing to answer the call and live for the cause that God is calling you to.

In the Old Testament there are some small books at the back. They are like journals of peoples lives and the way in which they served God. Each has a message, something they felt very strongly about. I bet you don’t know much about them, they are not heroes in history that everyone knows about, they were not always popular, quite the opposite actually, they were not the most beautiful, successful, or rich. They were all very different. But when it comes to heroes in God’s eyes - these guys make it. After all, they did make it into the most famous and most bought book ever. They pleased God and He used them in a mighty way. They went did amazing things for Him, not because they were brilliant in speaking or leading, but because they were available and willing to stand for a cause.
