We are all equal

This resource provides you with a lesson plan, songs, activities to teach this lesson effectively, with opportunities for the children to be active in the learning process. Aim: To teach the children that whatever gift we bring to Jesus, if our heart is right, then it doesn't matter if it is a small or big gift. God sees everyone with equal importance in the Kingdom of God.

Show More In these verses Jesus shows a very important contrast between those who think they have it all together and those who feel that what they have isn't worth much but they are willing to give it all anyway. Jesus begins in verse 38 to tell the large crowd around him to beware of the religious people who like to show everyone how important they are, who flash their knowledge and status around so that everyone thinks they are really important. Jesus condemns them for seeking honour for themselves and not for God. He tells how they use their standing in the community to take advantage of rich widows, conning them out of their money. Then he walks over to where the offerings were being placed and watches all the rich people throw their extra money into the offering feeling very proud. Imagine the heartbreak he was feeling as he saw these people so confused and missing the point of worshipping God. He calls the disciples over and shows them what he means as he points out a poor widow, probably really embarrassed and feeling worth nothing, sneaks in to give to God her last two coins. He explains to the disciples that although it wasn't as much as the rich people, it was actually worth more because God looks at the heart and accepts gifts equally no matter how big or small.
