Patience

Aim: To teach the children that patience sometimes means letting people fail and still loving them. To challenge them about the way that Jesus showed patience with his friend Peter as an example for us to learn by.

Show More Peter is a lovable character who I’m sure many of us can relate to because of what he did to Jesus most of us would write him off as a true friend many times over. He always tried so hard and yet always seemed to fail. Peter was really testing Jesus’ friendship here, and Jesus, knowing what he would do, never spoke to Peter harshly, but was patient, knowing that someday he would get it right. Jesus even told him what he would do and he denied it on the spot. I can’t imagine how he felt when the cock crowed and he remembered what Jesus had said. He was overcome with fear for his life when he denied Christ. Most of us would behave the same way. At least he was there. The other disciples ran away at the first chance. In Mark 16 when Jesus rose from the dead and spoke to the women he said “go tell the disciples that I am alive and especially Peter.” Why! Because he was patient and forgiving and wanted Peter to know that he was giving him a second chance and how ever many chances he needed till he got it right. So we must do the same to the people around us.
