To teach the children that the race will have tough times.

Luke 18

This story comes at the end of a whole passage about the end times and how we need to live for God and be ready. It not only talks about the need for persistence in prayer, but also can encourage us to live persistently the Christian life so we are ready when Jesus returns. The fact that it was a single judge probably means that the judge was waiting for a bribe to sort the problem out and the widow was not in a position to pay. The widow’s only recourse was to be persistent in asking until he got sick of her asking and gave in to her just to get her off his back. For whatever reason people give up, persistence will pay off. This is a challenge when there are so many people giving up and giving in to the easy way today, wanting instant gratification. But anything worthwhile is always hard work. Ask any successful person. God doesn’t want us to give up on our relationship with him. He wants us to live a life that honours him and to stand strong for Christian principles.
