Matthew 20-21

In Matthew 20, Verse 1 - 16 Jesus tells a parable that simply means that God gives us what we need; eternal life, a chance to serve Him. He gives different degrees of service to anyone he pleases and it is available simply by us saying thank you. No one has a claim to anything more or less than they are given by God. Jesus says in verse 26 that if anyone wants to be great, they must learn to serve. It is a very different way to that which the world teaches us about being a success in life. Matthew 21 speaks about the need to be real in your faith, not doing things that look right and yet don’t serve God’s purposes. Jesus gets angry in the Temple as he sees the so called religious people making money in God’s House. He curses the fig tree that should have been showing signs of growth by now. He challenges the religious people about not practicing in real life what they preach to others. We learn so many essentials about being God’s kid in these passages. We learn to serve without comparing (20:13) ourselves or expecting rewards. We learn to be always growing (21:19) and changing in God (21:44) and to be real (21:13) in all that we say and the way we live our lives. We learn that actions (service) (20:26) speak louder than words and are much more important to God.
