Journey Through Time : Week 3

The Problem

This resource provides you with a lesson plan, songs, activities to teach this lesson effectively, with opportunities for the children to be active in the learning process. You will be provided with lesson plans and extra materials for either a "stand alone teaching experience" or if you are teaching this as part of a whole module. Choose the resources that best suit your situation.

To help the children understand that God’s perfect plan was spoilt because people were unwilling to trust God completely. To help them acknowledge that we are “not smarter than our creator” and we need Him to be boss of our life.

Genesis 2-3

God desired to provide humans with everything they needed. He gave them two special trees. One they could eat from and one they couldn’t eat from. God gave them the tree of life to eat from, He intended that they have life and have it abundantly. The tree of knowledge was the tree of moral knowledge and ethical discernment which God asked them not to touch. In eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, Adam and Eve sought a creature source of discernment in order to be morally independent of God. Although God made humans in the “image of God”, the “likeness” (meaning “image”) is so basic to the human structure that the fall did not destroy it. Sin has blurred it, but man remains a reasoning, moral, creative creature. He is still intended to be in control of his environment. Because of sin, access to the tree of life was denied and they had to leave the garden. Spiritual death was immediate, being cut off from God. Physical death followed in the course of time. When they sinned they felt naked and where once their garden was a place of joy and fellowship with God, it became a place of fear and of hiding from God.
